Public Works Department
The Public Works Department provides for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the City infrastructure systems. The Public Works Department is comprised of the Street and Parks; Engineering; Water Treatment; and Wastewater Treatment Divisions. All of the divisions work together to coordinate municipal services.
The Street and Parks Division maintains the city's streets and parks. Responsibilities include, mowing and cleaning of the parks, sweeping the streets, filling potholes, plowing snow, and repairing the water and sewer mains.
The Engineering Department provides support services to guide the planning, design, management, maintenance and construction of the City's infrastructure. The primary focus of infrastructure is related to those items located within the public right of ways and easements. Typical infrastructure items include, but are not limited to, streets, storm sewer, sanitary sewer collection, water distribution, street lighting, sidewalks and trails.
The Water Department operates and manages the water treatement facility. The water plant is a lime softening plant that removes the iron and softens the water before sending it out into the distribution system for consumption. The City utilizes 8 wells, two elevated storage tanks, and 2 ground storage tanks to supply drinking water to its customers.
The Wastewater Department operates and manages the wastewater treatment facility. The facility is designed to treat 2.6 million gallons per day of wastewater. They also oversee 19 lift stations and over 75 miles of gravity sewer lines throughout the City.
